• Cleaning House

Our house has been on the market for a few months now. Sadly, the housing market around here is pretty bad, and we haven’t had any bites (or nibbles, for that matter). We have an open house scheduled for Sunday, and with that in mind, Josh and I have been working our behinds off trying to get the house into the realm of presentable.

I’m happy to say that the outside of the house is as good as it’s going to get. The inside of the house, sadly, is another matter. There’s a fair amount of clutter, and the bathrooms and floors need to be scrubbed. My cats won’t stop shedding, and they’re burning out my vacuum. (Oh what I would do for a Dyson Animal. Those are the things that dreams are made of). It’s sad when you have to clean out the vacuum filters after every use.

With the prospect of moving in the very near future becoming more and more a reality, Josh and I have decided to do a bit of downsizing as well. The truth is, we don’t need the 300 CDs we have. We don’t need the 60 DVDs or the art textbooks from our college days. If it all works out, we’ll be moving from a three-bedroom house with a full attic and basement to a one-bedroom (maybe a two-bedroom) apartment in the middle of a city. Where does one put 300 CDs when they’re crammed into a one-bedroom apartment?

So, I think the plan is to try and sell everything to a local used music store or on Ebay. Before we can do that though, we have to rip everything onto our hard drive. I got started on this grand endeavor last night by typing out a list of all our DVDs. I have yet to tackle our CDs. Once the lists are made and the media ripped, we’ll take the lists downtown to see what we can get for the lot of them.

If we end up moving to San Diego, we’ll probably sell our treadmill. I would like to be able to keep it if we move to Chicago, but again, where does one put a treadmill in a one-bedroom apartment. Perhaps I can create some sort of seating structure from the CD cases and the treadmill. Or maybe we can sleep on them… or maybe I’ll just sell everything and be grateful for the money.
