I Never Said I Was Mary Poppins
Sorry for the blogging lag.
Josh and I spent the first have of the weekend busting our butts to get the house ready to show. It was a hot, sweaty, sticky ordeal, and no one even showed up at the open house. Needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway), I was pissed and frustrated to find out all that work was for nothing.
Except that my house needed to be cleaned anyway, so I guess it wasn’t time wasted. I guess.
I’ve had a really hard time trying to integrate housekeeping in with mothering. I’m just not a good mulit-tasker, I guess. For me to get anything done around this place, I either need Josh to be the parent on duty (POD), or I need to hire a babysitter (like we did on Saturday morning). I think I’m a pretty good SAHMom, but I’m a terrible SAHMaid. I’ve tried singing a merry song and snapping my fingers, but Jude’s toys will not put themselves away any more than my dishes will wash themselves.
The amazing part of all of this is that my husband, who has pretty much resigned himself to living in squalor, doesn’t get mad or yell at me that laundry hasn’t been done or there are dirty dishes in the sink. There’s no, “WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING ALL DAY?” or “ARE YOU BLOGGING AGAIN? THIS PLACE IS A MESS, AND YOU’RE BLOGGING AGAIN, AREN’T YOU?” Instead, he comes home from a long day of working and grabs a load of laundry from the second floor and lugs it to the basement. He assumes his role as POD even when he’s tired so that I can clean the kitchen or scrub the bathrooms. He encourages me to take care of Jude and me first and leave the house stuff to last.
I know what you’re all thinking, and yes, he does have a brother, but he’s getting married at the end of this month, so no fantastic husband for you!
All that said, having a clean house is like, the nicest thing ever. I LOVE walking on freshly vacuumed carpets. I LOVE having a clean kitchen. I LOVE the look of the place when there isn’t a bunch of crap cluttering it all up. That being said, I’m going to make a promise to you, the people of the internet. I promise to keep it up. Now that the house is in relatively good shape, it should be easy to keep this way. My goals are as follow:
1. Vacuum every other day
2. Clean one-two room each day
3. Remind husband to do a load of laundry each day (hey, there are bugs in the basement, and I DON’T. DO. BUGS.)
4. Sweep the downstairs floors every other day (alternating with the vacuuming)
In addition to all that, Josh and I have made some big plans to sort through all of our stuff that’s been collecting dust in the attic and basement. We’re hoping to have a yard sale sometime soon because we know there are suckers out there who will buy our crap, and we won’t have room for any of it once we sell our home and relocate.
And now, one and a half dirty bathrooms are calling to me, and sadly, I must answer the call.

I know what will make you happy…more kitten pictures!
