The past few days have been exhausting for me. I think I’ve said this before, but I’m just SO TIRED. I don’t know why… Jude usually sleeps pretty well at night, so (normally) it isn’t him keeping me up. Okay, last night was his fault, but really, that was the first bad night he has had in quite a while. Anyway…
My friend Rob invited us all over to his place on Friday night for a bit of a cookout. Jude had a blast walking around Rob’s back yard and playing with his Uncle Paul and Aunt Becky. He had been munching on some broccoli for a bit when Paul came out of the house with a piece of corn on the cob. Jude seemed really interested in it, and when he reached out to grab it, Paul let him take it. You know how you never have your camera when you need it? Well, I didn’t have my camera and I NEEDED IT! You should have seen my boy gnawing on that piece of corn on the cob. He just went to town. It took him around half an hour to get through the whole cob, but in the end, he finished it. It was an amazing sight, and I’m still lamenting the fact that I missed a great photo op.
Saturday afternoon, Josh and I took Jude downtown for a walk. We grabbed a (decaf) iced coffee (with honey) from Northern Light Espresso Bar and headed down Spruce Street to check out the Scranhattan Arts Festival. I’m not really in the know about this “Scranhattan” thing, but from what Josh tells me, the moniker arose from the cries of the artists of the city that Scranton just doesn’t have the art scene that Manhattan and Philadelphia do. Well, the artists kind of claimed the nickname and ran with it. Yesterday they all came together and set up tables to display their art (and try to sell it, as well). Musicians played in the streets and the art galleries and theater were open. We arrived, by chance, right as things were getting started and only stuck around for 20 minutes or so, but it seemed like everyone was having a great time.
This morning, Josh, Jude, and I took my grandfather to Abe’s for breakfast. Jude had had a really (really, really) bad night last night, so we hurried home as soon as we dropped grandpa off in the hopes of catching a nap. Jude complied, and the three of us slept for about 2 hours. It was lovely.
Later this afternoon, Josh suggested we take Jude swimming at Nay Aug park. When we got there, we realized we had forgotten our towels in the car, so Josh went back to get them while Jude and I settled in on the steps in the shallow end. Then Josh came back without any towels because we had actually forgotten them at home, not in the car. Oh, then I got hit in the chest with a plastic water gun. It grazed Jude’s head and got me right below my clavicle. It hurt; I cursed; Jude cried. Next, we put Jude in his little floaty thing. That didn’t go over very well. I think the water was just too cold for him. After Josh went down the water slide, we headed over to a patch of grass and watched some guys play frisbee for a bit. Jude was really interested in it and kept walking over towards them. One guy in particular was really sweet… He asked how old Jude was and let him play with the frisbee for a few minutes. When the guys back up, Josh and I threw our flying disc around for a bit. Let me tell you, people of the internet, I have MAD SKILLS. Not only was I actually able to throw the disc to Josh (and by that I mean he didn’t have to run all over God’s green earth to catch it), but I both threw and caught that little flying disc while holding Jude. I ran and jumped and bended (and hurt my back! Sorry, Dr. Jennifer!) and kicked some major ass this afternoon. We had a great time.
And now, after some fun in the sun, a short nap, and a quick trip to Wegmans, Jude is asleep. Tomorrow I go back to work after having nearly all of last week off. Here’s hoping we all get a better night’s sleep tonight.
