A Picnic Breakfast Playdate

Right at this moment I want to scream and cry and throw up because I’m so very frustrated with my over-tired, non-napping, son. Since I don’t want to actually remember this feeling or this situation, I’m instead going to write about today’s breakfast playdate in the park.

Yesterday, while watching the kiddos run around and climb on the play structures at our next-door playground, some of my friend and I started chatting, and the topic of cinnamon buns came up. Recognizing everyone’s love of those sweet and tasty rolls, I offered to make a batch for a morning playdate, if anyone wanted to join me. The consensus was unanimous! “Yes!” “We LOVE cinnamon buns!” they cried! And so a date was made.

Last night I made the dough and the filling; I rolled it out and up into a log; I sliced the dough into circular pieces and I arranged them in three separate pans. This morning I baked the buns and I made the frosting; I drizzled frosting and I made a pot of coffee. Jude and I headed outside with our neighbors at around 9am. We were joined by two other families and a few passersby. We balanced out the “bad” of the sticky buns with the “good” of fresh fruit. The kiddos drew with chalk, kicked and threw balls, and climbed on everything imaginable.

We’re thinking of making this a weekly date, since everyone had such a lovely time. Care to join us?

  1. Sounds delightful, if only we weren’t several states away! If you’re still doing this by the time we get to Chicago, count us in.

  2. Will do, Louise! What your ETA on that move? (=

  3. At this point, who knows? We’re hoping sometime within the next four years. I say the sooner the better!

  4. Commenting from an iPad!!!
