I’ve mentioned that Josh and I got Jude a BabyBjörn potty chair in the hopes that one day he’ll potty learn and we’ll be relieved of our diaper changing/diaper washing duties (doody! ha!). Up until Friday night, Jude hadn’t paid much attention to the potty chair, though he had sat on it, fully clothed, a few times. However, after Josh left for his retreat on Friday, Jude pee’d and pooped on the potty! It was amazing… well, as amazing as poop and pee can be, at least. Yesterday he pee’d on the potty twice-one time even alerting me to the fact that he needed to use it. Today, the same: he pee’d on there twice and alerted me once.

I’m excited that Jude is starting along his potty learning journey. I’m not expecting miracles. If he is diaper-free by the time he turns three, I’ll be thrilled. Any earlier would just be icing on the poop cake.

Now that Jude has shown some interest in using his potty, I’m looking forward to warm weather even more than I was before. Warm weather means lots of nakey time, and I’m hoping that being sans pants will make it easier for Jude to do his thing on his own.

Did everyone catch that I referenced a “poop cake?” Cause that’s just funny…

Josh and I recently purchased this potty chair for Jude. While I don’t expect him to use it with any consistency, or honestly, at all right now, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce the potty into Jude’s daily life.

One night, late last week, Josh gave Jude his bath. For some reason (see also: this), whenever Josh bathes Jude, he is unable to dress the boy without first letting him run around all wild and naked. Even though I’m a fan of nakey time, I have some reservations about letting Jude run around sans clothes in our freezing apartment…in the middle of February. It just doesn’t seem like the brightest idea.

So, after his bath, Jude was running around in all his naked glory, when he suddenly stopped and pee’d on (well, right next to, really), his new wooden kitchen. I grabbed his potty chair and suggested he sit down if he needed to pee-pee again. He sat for three second, got up, looked at Josh and me, and pee’d a little more. Then, he stopped, took two steps backwards, pee’d again and repeated the “stop, backup, pee” process two more times. Josh and I just about lost it. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe. It was quite the funny ending to a long and tiring day.

And, while I don’t particularly like having to clean up multiple pee puddles, at least we know he has some control over the muscles that he’ll need to potty learn.

    …always a silver lining.
